July racing at SHYC concluded with the Hosea White PHRF race on July 31.
Brian Pitt's Harrier battled through challenging wind conditions to capture line honors and first place overall. Two skippers sailing single-handed, Paul Kellen in Sundancer and Don Kavanagh in Thunderation, placed second & third respectively.
Seven boats started the 7.8 mile race but only three finished as the breeze died out during the long second leg between Columbia Point and the outer most end of Long Island.
The Thunderbird Twilight Series continued in July. Chikanery continued it's winning ways in the July 7 race followed by Flying Gull and Tank (the boat formerly known as Wakiya) in the six-boat fleet.
The July 14 race was cancelled.
Atomic Salsa overtook Mysterious Ways on the final leg to win the July 21 race. Thunderation placed third in the five-boat fleet.
The July 28 race featured a visiting Thunderbird, Taaris, from New York. Flying Gull topped the eight-boat fleet followed by Chikanery and Atomic Salsa.
